Ang Sarimanok

The Sarimanok is a stylized representation of an open-winged legendary bird whose beak or claws clutch a fish. The survival of the Sarimanok is a result of an extraordinary fusion of time-honored traditions with new religious teachings. The sarimanok has been transformed into a symbol of power, wealth and rank.

SOSOGON FESTIVAL

“SOSOGON” which means “to trace” was what Sorsogon originally called, this after the colonizer, in their attempt to reach their destination asked the local inhabitants for directions. Unable to understand the language, used by the visitors, the local folks just answered them “SOSOGON”, at the same time pointing towards the river, in a gesture of showing them the route. Thus, colonizer named the place “SOGSOGON”, which later on became SOLSOGON, then SOSOGON and is what is now known as the famous CITY OF SORSOGON.

Another story of the City of Sorsogon is its PILI Festival and Sts. Peter and Paul Celebration , wherein to truly give honor to the saints that guide SorsogueƱos spiritually, the then Pili Festival once, just an accentuation of the celebration and putting Sts. Peter and Paul at the core of the festivities. Wherein every 28th and 29th day of June the streets is filled with entertaining decorations, scintillating and dazzling activities.

Republic Act 8806 which was ratified and made into law on 16 December 2000 paved the way to the birth of Sorsogon City and it is but fitting to give tribute to its foundation; hence, the then Pili Festival was now dubbed as SOSOGON – PILI FESTIVAL. The festival aimed primarily at giving significance on the birth of the City of Sorsogon which showcases and highlights the history and merging the then municipalities of Bacon and Sorsogon. With its two complimentary characteristics, sceneries, people and culture the merged municipalities soars beautifully.
